From
the Estate Manager
Time sure does fly - we are more than halfway
through the year, and it seems only the other
day that we enjoyed the New Year bash at the
club.
It is pleasing that even though the Estate
has been so busy, few serious or major security,
safety or environmental incidents have been
reported and we certainly remain one of the
safest places to live on the West Coast. Disappointingly
there are still some residents and visitors
that persistently speed on our roads - although
there has been an improvement.

Hopefully
the additional 30 km speed signs and four new speed
humps will help slow traffic down, especially at the
2nd, 13th and 16th holes, where they also serve as
crossings for golfers. Although the speed limit along
Oostewal Road has finally been changed by the Provincial
Roads Department to 60 km, vehicles still speed along
the main road to Langebaan. I would like to ask residents,
members and visitors to pay special attention and
be careful when entering or leaving the Estate.
We are having
a good "green season" with regular winter
rain, and as a result everybody is expecting a wonderful
flower season. A number of new young Steenbokkies
have been spotted, and there are also reports of an
increase in Spotted Eagle Owl and Yellow Beaked Kite
breading pairs. A family of Cape Fox have moved in
behind the 13th fairway, and an excited owner and
resident nature lover reported that he has seen them
and a rare Golden Mongoose on a regular basis near
his house next to the 14th fairway. The CWAC regularly
does water bird counts at the Estate dams, and their
last count showed an increase to over 20 different
species, as well as in the total numbers.

New pedestrian
walkways have been completed by Klaas van Eyssen,
our green keeper, and residents can be seen
meandering through the veld beyond the second
nine out of bounds markers. The brick paved
golf car access paths from the Clubhouse to
the under-pass and phases 1 and 2 have also
been completed and are looking very smart. Please
note that although walkers, joggers and cyclists
are welcome to use these golf car paths, no
other motorised vehicles are permitted.
Phase 3 building construction is certainly moving
along and the sixth home has been occupied in
the short time since the first transfers took
place. Building at the Ellefsen Village site
is also in an advanced stage, including the
roads and its own separate entrance and gatehouse.
The entrance road to phases 1 and 2 has now
been completed with a brick-paved surface, and
there was much excitement from residents when
the temporary access was closed and the new
one opened. The front of the Club also looks
very smart now with completion of the circle,
road and new car park.

Please note that a small building works and maintenance
contractor has been appointed for the Estate. He will
ensure that any work is undertaken in full compliance
of the comprehensive LCE Contractor’s Code of
Conduct. Should any owners require his services, please
do not hesitate to contact Client Liaison (Louisa
Coetzee) on 022 77 22 112.
