The
bowls year at Langebaan Country estate has ended
with our AGM marking the retirement from the
Steering Committee of our former club President
and Treasurer, Myfi Ryke and Lynne Howell respectively.
Myfi was one of the founding members of the
bowls club in the early ‘nineties’,
having served as committee member for many years
and as President for no fewer than four years.
Lynne too has served her club as Treasurer for
many years and, as with Myfi, now continues
to enjoy bowling without the added responsibilities
of club management.
The newly elected committee
sees Al Cannone as President; Eddie Bremner
– new to the committee - as Vice President;
Elaine Turner continuing as Secretary; Ricci
Cannone – also new to the committee
– elected as Treasurer; Reg Lees and
Heather Evans continuing as Competitions Secretary
and Assistant Competitions Secretary respectively;
Jack Shaw also continuing as Development Officer;
and making up the full complement of eight
members, Doreen Lees is the newly elected
incumbent of the Catering portfolio.
The new bowls committee
at LCE will continue to encourage participation
in and promotion of the sport in Langebaan.
With the coaching of newly recruited members
now in full swing even before the arrival
of those wonderfully warm Spring days, we
invite anyone who might harbour an interest
in taking up a truly wonderful sport that
has the potential to carry you gracefully
- and healthily - well into your eighties.
LCE to sponsor young bowling
talent:
LCE has made a donation
towards the bowls Development Team Tournament
by sponsoring a young bowler from a previously
disadvantaged community in Vredenburg to attend
a tournament held in Bloemfontein. Says Al
Cannone of LCE Bowls Club: “In addition
to building up our ‘retiree’ numbers,
we bowlers at LCE need to look at development
opportunities and potential among the youth
of Langebaan.”
All four games –
singles, pairs, trips and fours – played
against Weskus Militere Bowls Club from Saldanha
in the Boland Fives tournament recently were
won by LCE! Regarding the growth in bowls
at LCE, Craig Scott says “I am thrilled
at the growth in numbers and enthusiasm of
the bowls members. I like nothing more than
to see our facilities being used and enjoyed!”.
“Bowls photographs
that we had taken by a professional photographer
last year are to be framed for display in
the bowls clubhouse.”
