The Bells® Experience Golf Day 108 golfers - including famous rugby legends Breyton Paulse and Chester Williams - descended upon our wonderful Gary Player Black Knight Designed golf course on 23 October, for what proved to be a memorable experience from start to finish. As usual, Klasie van Eyssen and his team ensured that the course was in pristine condition for the event, and the proceedings were further enhanced by a perfectly calm and sunny Langebaan day. The event commenced with welcome drinks - Bells® Extra Special Scotch Whisky, of course, served by two charming Scottish lasses. Drinks were followed by an astonishing display of trick shots from well-known TV presenter David Usendorf, the highlights of which were David taking shots from the top of shafts instead of tee pegs, and teeing off with a club fitted with a very bendy shaft! The competition’s shotgun start was preceded by a lone (but noble) traditional bagpiper. Without a doubt, the sound of the Scottish pipes is always inspirational – especially judging by competitors’ great performances afterwards. In the evening the ultimate winners - Anelette Hugo and Maggie Du Toit with 47 points - were presented with some magnificent prizes. They now have a chance to proceed to the next stage – or maybe even win through to the finale on the Old Course at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews, Scotland. Finally a lively sit-down dinner rounded off the day, and incorporated the traditional Blessing of the Haggis (in Gaelic). High spirits abounded, thanks to a great setting, the sterling quality of Bells and the wit of host Alan Shuman, a raconteur extraordinaire. Needless to say, a great day was had by all. |
