Profile: Charl Gildenhuys

Our new Chef’s passion for the food industry started in 1992 at the Capetonian Protea Hotel, when he was accepted for in-service training in professional cookery at the Granger Bay Hotel School. During this 3-year course Charl also worked at the Lamberts Bay Protea Hotel. After completion of the course he left the Protea Group in 1995, and decided to get more experience in industrial catering. He was involved in catering on the Saldanha Steel Project, and moved to Cape Town when that project came to an end.

After 5 years in Cape Town Charl decided that it was time to move back to the West Coast! His new appointment at Langebaan Country Estate enables him to work in close co operation with Neville Eriksen, the new Food & Beverage Manager, and together the pair are already ringing some exciting changes.

Charl has many ideas for enlarging the choice available on the menu - for example, a light lunch menu and an à la carte menu. He is a strong believer in developing sound relationships with guests, and says that “While each restaurant is different, there is one thing for sure - good food and wine will always bring people together!” We hope that you will visit the Horizon Restaurant to savour Charl’s delicious offerings.
