Clubhouse Chat

Following the heavy winter and spring rainfall it has been wonderful to watch the course improve on a day by day basis, and we are looking forward to presenting a well manicured and rewarding golf course to golfers over the festive season and the summer beyond. We have been busy with a number of events and have recently featured on Super Sport twice. These events include:

  • The Inaugural Cup to celebrate the 1st anniversary of the launch of the new redesigned golf course held on 5 September 2008 with 120 players taking part. Topping off the day was a magnificent dinner in the Horizon Restaurant. Congratulations to Ben Cilliers and Tony De Gersigny for winning the trophy.
  • On 9 September 2008 we hosted a Golf Day in conjunction with Dale Hayes. Although threatening, the weather held to ensure that the golfers had a memorable day. After the golf, Dale Hayes entertained the gallery with his humorous golf stories and awesome array of trick shots. Dale was very impressed with the improvements to the facilities and he commented that the new layout made it a lot more enjoyable for the average golfer. The course was featured on Supergolf on 4 December 2008.
  
 

  • Hot on the heels of Dale Hayes came the ‘Boots and All’ team featuring a number of retired Springbok rugby players and their guests. The event was organised to raise funds for old rugby players, requiring financial assistance. The list of players included - Albie Bates, Rob Louw, Naas Botha, Divan Serfontein, Johan Heunis, Ray Mordt, Anton Barnard, Daruis Botha, Danie Gerber, Schalk Burger (Snr), Burger Geldenhuys, Kobus Burger, Frik Du Preez, Robbie Blair, Jannie Engelbrecht and Toks Van Der Linde.

  • Our Club Championships were held on 4 and 5 October with a dinner and prize-giving up in the Horizon Restaurant. The results were as follows:

    Singles Match play: H. Leenheer
    Doubles Match play: B. Cilliers & J. Cilliers
    Club Champion Men: J. Visagie
    Club Champion Ladies: R. Liebenberg
    Men’s B section: F. van Rensburg
    Men’s C section: W. Olivier
    Ladies B section: B. van Ast

  • From 2 - 8 November we hosted the SAP Inter-Provincial Golf Tournament, with 120 players from all over the country participating. All of the players thoroughly enjoyed the event in particular the fact that they were all accommodated on the Estate. Events like these, while causing some inconvenience to our members, help fill up the Club’s coffers and provide us with a platform to showcase the course and facilities to a wider audience and to keep members' subs and green fees as low as they are.

  • On 20 November we had our Langebaan Ladies Open; 103 ladies had a wonderful day in very warm conditions, and the day was won by Sonja Weakly and Lorette Higie from Milnerton Golf Club. Our sincere appreciation goes to Kerry Prodehl and her team who worked tirelessly to make this event a success, even without a main sponsor.

  • Congratulations must go to our Ladies League team who won the Boland Sanhills League final against Worcester at Kuilsriver. This was a first for Langebaan and we wish them success in defending their title in 2009.

During the festive season we will be holding two additional Sundowner’s on Tuesday 23 December 2008 and 30 December respectively. Bookings are essential over this busy time.
